Shoreline Erosion
Shoreline erosion poses a major challenge for communities along the St. Lawrence River, and it is a challenge that is expected to intensify with a changing climate. The River Institute is leading a collaborative, 4-year project (2024-2028) that is piloting innovative, nature-based solutions to shoreline erosion, which are designed to work with natural processes to enhance riparian and nearshore habitats. The project builds on the findings of a previous 3-year research project (2021-2024) that conducted engineering studies and assessing river ecosystems to better understand the impacts of waves on shoreline erosion.
