Volunteer Water Monitoring Program
The River Institute’s Volunteer Water Monitoring Program is a community-engaged initiative that aims to fill important water quality data gaps by providing volunteers with the tools necessary to conduct water monitoring along the Upper St. Lawrence River and its tributaries. This program utilizes Water Rangers test kits and the organization’s open data platform to collect and share water data. Once uploaded, this data is made available to scientists conducting environmental research, such as those working on the Great River Rapport ecosystem health report.

- Freshwater Explorers: General water chemistry, including dissolved oxygen, conductivity, temperature, and pH
- Temperature Rangers: pH, hardness, alkalinity, chlorine, and temperature
- Road Salt Stoppers: Chloride, conductivity, and temperature
- Bacteria Busters: E. coli colonies, conductivity, temperature
