The OBBN is an aquatic macroinvertebrate biomonitoring network for Ontario’s lakes, streams, and wetlands coordinated by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change.

River Institute offers an OBBN training course for anyone using benthic macro-invertebrates to monitor streams or lakes according to provincially standardized protocols. Training covers bio-monitoring theory, sampling methods, benthic-invertebrate identification, and bio-assessment calculations. The three-day course is presented by OBBN-certified trainers and includes a field practicum. Participants demonstrating proficiency will be certified as OBBN members.

Space is limited to 25 students per course. Advance registration is required. Cancellations and refunds are accepted up to two weeks prior to the course.
