Sediment Mapping in support of the Sediment Management Strategy for the St. Lawrence River at Cornwall

The purpose of the project is to support the Cornwall Sediment Strategy (CSS), which was developed to prevent the disturbance of contaminated sediment deposits along the Cornwall waterfront. The project involves sampling and analysis of sediments to fill in data gaps for sites close to shore where docks and other projects may be desired. These data gaps were identified from previous mapping and sediment analyses by the River Institute and by government agencies. The work aims to characterize selected hotspot areas within the nearshore using sonar, underwater video and core sampling. The data will contribute to more precise mapping of the sediment concentrations and inform a current review of the CSS program.
