The keen interest of our community for healthy fish populations sparked the idea of establishing the Fish Health Assessment Laboratory to strengthen the River Institute’s ability to support fish conservation and sustainability. This initiative is led by one of our scientists, Dr. Dominique Lapointe.

What we do: We acquired equipment and supplies to improve our ability to evaluate fish condition using morphological measurements and thorough health surveys. We also implemented a fish aging station that allows us to determine fish age and growth rates.

The research projects conducted by the Fish Health Assessment Laboratory focus on assessing the impacts of environmental stressors on fish overall condition, to support the sustainability of fish populations.
