I received my education in the fields of biology (BSc and MSc, Université Laval, Québec City) and water science (PhD, INRS – Centre Eau Terre Environnement, Québec City). My research expertise and interests combine environmental physiology and aquatic ecotoxicology. Early on, my research activities aimed at assessing the interactions between fishes of socio-economic and/or cultural importance and their environment. Prior to joining River Institute, I served as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at two institutions: The Virginia Institute of Marine Science (Gloucester Point, VA, USA), where I studied the effects of hypoxia, temperature and a bacterial disease on striped bass; and at Carleton University (Ottawa, ON), where my research assessed the impacts of climate change on inland fisheries of the tropics.
My research program uses physiology, the science of how living things work, to assess the impacts of environmental stressors on the health and general condition of freshwater, estuarine, and marine fishes. I am also interested in the ecological repercussions of fish’ responses to environmental stressors.
Fish Health Assessment Laboratory
As part of my role at the River Institute, I lead the Fish Health Assessment Laboratory. Our mission is to assess the impacts of environmental stressors on fish health, to ensure the sustainability of healthy fish populations.
